We would like to thank all of you in the village who supported us so well after Will’s ’‘misadventure,’ falling off a ladder, and the following 7 weeks stay in hospital.
Thank you for all your kind cards, encouraging messages and practical support. We were overwhelmed by the kindness of the village. Will is making steady improvement but won’t be climbing any ladders… ever!

57 villagers and friends enjoyed a wonderful Curry night last Saturday. Thanks must go to all the cooks, Harriet Bowes, Vic Hollis, Rachel Cohen, Mark Little, Jenny Elphick, Michelle Macey, Paul Latham and Martin. The evening was a team event. Thanks to all those who helped set up, donate or cook rice, donate and clear away too. The hall looked great, the quiz was fun, and it was good to see so many villagers, both old timers and newly arrived, enjoying themselves together.
On the afternoon of the Grand National we will open the Hall to view the Grand National on the Big Screen. The Bar will be open all afternoon. This event will follow the Crafternoon activities.
Another date for your diary – The FA cup final is on the 16th May and we will open the Hall to watch it together on the Big Screen. Again, the Bar will be open. Appropriate snacks can be purchased.
This is a replacement activity for the village because we will not be holding the summer fete this year . More details to follow watch this space!

Toad MigrationThe annual migration of frogs and toads from their winter hibernation to their breeding ponds has started due to the mild weather. The village Toad Patrol checks round the Grimmer every evening soon after dusk, making a few circuits of the green to rescue toads attempting to cross the road. We currently have vacant slots on Wednesdays and Fridays if you can spare an hour to help. Please contact Melinda mole7@protonmail.com. Please drive carefully while migration season is here. |
Wickham Skeith NewsletterThe Wickham Skeith newsletter is a free service provided to villagers, informing everyone about events, parish news, community items, such as the oil purchasing scheme, and a few adverts which help fund it. It is delivered through letterboxes every month by our volunteers. A big thank you to them for turning out promptly and in all weathers - although mostly sunshine this year. Currently our printing costs work out about £1.00 per copy and this is funded through the adverts, contributions from Parish Council and the Church, and the rest comes from Village Hall Committee funds. We hope that you find it useful and would like to continue to receive it. Let us know (mole7@protonmail.com) if you no longer wish to receive it and we will adjust our distribution. |
The next meeting of the Parish Council is:
Monday 2 March 2026 from 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
The Agenda is on the Village Noticeboard and on the village website.
The Annual Meeting of the Parish, and the Annual Parish Council meetings will both take place on 11 May 2026.
All are welcome to attend, and invited to raise issues during the residents’ forum.

Flower FestivalMay 2nd, 3rd and 4th. St Andrews Church Wickham Skeith. We had a super Coffee Morning to raise funds for the exhibitors by kind invitation of Margaret Jones-Evans. The list of willing participants has been started, with all the usual suspects raring to go! But if anyone else would like to take part in a floral way, please contact me to find out more. The other lists are now circulating….the helping and baking for the tea tent rotas, and the guarding the church rotas. Liz Davidson is the keeper of those ones. We may have a concert on the Saturday or Sunday evening, featuring Mr and Mrs Cohen, so watch this space. Tickets will be available as soon as we know further details. This biennial event not only raises much needed money for the church, but it is a great opportunity to lend a hand with a big village event. So many good folk out there who donate their time. We would be lost without you! And it is a well-advertised village happening, with folks from other towns and villages making a point of putting it on their calendars. The next order deadline is March 31st. If you need oil, please email jerrybassett@icloud.com or, if you do not have access to email, call 07918 028621
Our syndicate has been running for 16 years now and saved us collectively tens of thousands of pounds. Here is a reminder of the workings of the scheme. If you would like to try it out, just drop me an email with contact details.
There will be four opportunities to place orders over the next 12 months.
On or before:
- 30 November
- 31 January
- 31 March
- 30 June
Before each of these dates I will place a reminder in the village newsletter and send you an email reminder. Then let me know if you would like to be included in the next order. I will need to know:
- quantity required (min 500 litres)
- any special instructions - eg concerning delivery
Within a couple of days of the above dates, a bulk order will be placed with the oil company which offers the best deal, usually several pence per litre lower than the price available to customers who order individually. I will let you know the same day:
- the name of the company
- price
- expected delivery date
- the company's contact details should you need to speak to them directly
I will pass your address and phone numbers to the company which will contact you regarding payment (but normally only if they have not delivered to you before) and they will bill you directly.
If you have any questions, please email jerrybassett@icloud.com
The next order deadline is 31 March. If you need oil, please email drop an email to jerrybassett@icloud.com
Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils have launched a new recycling scheme for electrical items. Striking pink recycling bins have been provided where residents can dispose of their broken electrical items. This includes things like coffee machines, kettles, mobile phones, tablets, and anything smaller than a 4-slice toaster.
Our nearest bin is in the Buckshorn Lane car park, Eye
