Saturday 12th September 2026 – Music on the Green

On Saturday, 12th September we will be holding our popular Music on the Green event. This is a friendly afternoon listening to a wide variety of music while enjoying the bar, children’s bar and BBQ. All are welcome, villagers, family, friends, visitors, children, and polite dogs are welcome too. Let’s hope the weather holds up for a sunny afternoon so bring your picnic chairs or blankets. This is a free event, but donations will be appreciated to help pay for the maintenance of the village hall.

Just a reminder, this is a licensed event so only alcohol purchased at the bar can be consumed on the green. If you are a musician or know of anyone or any group who are willing to entertain us at MOTG please contact Stephen McKie on 07802 808727

Saturday 17th October 2026 – Pub night with more Pig Racing!!

A night at our ‘pub in the hall’ with the fun and games of pig racing, table football and darts planned for our October event. Come to join the games or enjoy a pint and a chat with friends old and new.

Saturday 28th November – Village Quiz Night

One of the best nights of the year in the village hall is our popular Quiz night. There will be varied rounds of questions and a cold platter of food in the interval plus the bar will be open. This is a ticketed event, and tickets will be available to buy in the November Newsletter.

Village Hall Committee – Your Village Hall needs you!

The village hall is the centre of the village community and plays an important role in the life of the village from Pub nights to Yoga classes and Curry evenings to Crafternoons. We are concerned for the future of the Village Hall Committee as three of us will be leaving at the AGM in spring next year. Jenny and Will Elphick are retiring after many years, and they hold the positions of Chair and Secretary, and Rosemarie Hayne is retiring and she holds the position of Treasurer. There are 9 of us on the committee at present but we will urgently need new members in the near future.

Village Hall AGM

We held the AGM recently and the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer all volunteered to serve for one more year only, but will all step down next year at the AGM 2027.  The last year was packed full of events, and it is so good to see the Hall being used regularly. A full Chair’s report is posted on the Wickham Skeith Website so please take a look!

The Treasurer’s report was an accurate analysis of where we stand financially. Thank you to all of you who contributed in any way, through attending events, buying a pint, cooking, volunteering to help, or any of the many ways villagers get involved.

Our main expenses this year have been to improve the fabric of the building such as, renovating the porch, electrical work for the kitchen, installing the oak posts at the front of the hall and buying two new gazebos. Many of our expenses have increased this year, including cleaning, insurance and licensing. Hence, we need to make more income from our events and rent next year to cover these costs. Thanks must go to Rosemarie Hayne who has done an excellent job as Treasurer and Booking Secretary this last year and to Dave Challinor who oversees the maintenance of the hall. Also, to Will Elphick who, despite his time away in hospital, has continued as Secretary for the Committee.

We still need you!

The Village Hall and Green are an important part of the life of the Village. We need volunteers to help support the work of the Village Hall committee.

If you can help, please get in touch with me, Jenny Elphick, at jennymelphick@gmail.com or on 0774546091
