Saturday 16th May – FA Cup Final

We showed the FA cup final on the 16th May and, although those who were there enjoyed a drink from the bar and watching a good game of football, it was poorly attended and so we won’t repeat this next year. Is there any interest in the village to watch any of the World Cup England games on the big Screen?

Saturday 20th June – “Summer Event” - with Small Beer festival, Prosecco and wine table, Kids bar, BBQ, Games on the Green and a Decorated non-motorised Wheeled vehicle competition.  Phew! So much to enjoy– start time 12 midday

Kevin Knights, our licensee, is organising a small beer festival with 3 or 4 local brews, and there will be a prosecco and wine bar and a children’s bar for soft drinks and crisps etc.  So come along and join us for a BBQ lunch. In the afternoon, Seb is organising games on The Green which will be for families and people of all ages who wish to join in.

We are encouraging you all to participate in our “Decorate a Wheeled Vehicle” display. There will be a prize for the best decorated non-motorised wheeled vehicle, e.g. wheelbarrow, bicycle, pushchair, pram, scooter etc. Decorations on any theme you choose.

We will be holding a raffle for a crate of booze so please can you donate a bottle or can of booze either alcoholic or non-alcoholic. All donations to a member of the Village Hall Committee or to the Village Hall on the Friday evening 19th June.

Bring a picnic chair or rug, bring your dog, bring your family, bring your friends. And BRING your DECORATED WHEELED VEHICLE.

As usual this will be a licensed event so only drinks bought from the bar can be consumed.

Hall Bookings

Do you have a little time spare in your life?  Would you like to contribute in some way to the life of the village? Managing the Hall bookings is not an onerous task but it is a very important one. We are looking for someone who would be willing to keep the Village Hall bookings diary, send out quarterly invoices, follow up on enquiries, and keep the Village Hall Committee up to date on bookings. Rosemarie Hayne is presently doing this role and has systems in place, and she would be willing to give you some direction. If you are interested or want to know more Just contact her on wsvh.treasurer@gmail.com

Village Hall AGM

We held the AGM recently and the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer all volunteered to serve for one more year only, but will all step down next year at the AGM 2027.  The last year was packed full of events, and it is so good to see the Hall being used regularly. A full Chair’s report is posted on the Wickham Skeith Website so please take a look!

The Treasurer’s report was an accurate analysis of where we stand financially. Thank you to all of you who contributed in any way, through attending events, buying a pint, cooking, volunteering to help, or any of the many ways villagers get involved.

Our main expenses this year have been to improve the fabric of the building such as, renovating the porch, electrical work for the kitchen, installing the oak posts at the front of the hall and buying two new gazebos. Many of our expenses have increased this year, including cleaning, insurance and licensing. Hence, we need to make more income from our events and rent next year to cover these costs. Thanks must go to Rosemarie Hayne who has done an excellent job as Treasurer and Booking Secretary this last year and to Dave Challinor who oversees the maintenance of the hall. Also, to Will Elphick who, despite his time away in hospital, has continued as Secretary for the Committee.

We still need you!

The Village Hall and Green are an important part of the life of the Village. We need volunteers to help support the work of the Village Hall committee.

If you can help, please get in touch with me, Jenny Elphick, at jennymelphick@gmail.com or on 0774546091
